From Cape Town Townships to Eshowe

In Group 1, ten out of twelve travelers missed or were delayed in their flights. The most challenged are Barbara, Peter, and Kathy who ended up in Frankfurt Germany for a day! I feel bad that they’ll be arriving for our most full schedule without a hotel overnight or rest. We’ll need to pamper them as much as we can!

Yesterday we had a MOST amazing day. The morning touring Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela and others were imprisoned for 26 years. Then in the afternoon we were guided by our Books for Africa’s and Rotary friend Paul Faure. We went to the townships Gugeletu and Khayelitsha, some of the world’s worst slums, gradually being redeveloped, had fish and chips for lunch, and drove to Cape Point. A great dinner halfway up Table Mountain at Bo-Kapp Kombuis.

Tourist days are done now. Today we fly to Durban and drive to Eshowe to begin three days of visiting schools!
